Christinna Pedersen and Mathias Christiansen beat the Chinese Zhang Nan and Liu Xuanxuan to reach their third successive Superseries quarter-final.

24-22, 21-12 – and the Danes could celebrate yet another victory in their new partnership. So far they have reached the semi-final at French Open, a final at China Open last week, and now they are in the quarter-finals in Hong Kong, as well.

Hopefully, this could be their first chance for a Superseries title. But they will have to get past Lioa and Chen from Chinese Taipei in the quarter-final on Friday for that to happen.

Another European mixed doubles have followed them into the next round. Mark Lamsfuss and Isabel Herttrich from Germany would have faced fifth seeds Zheng and Huang from China, in the other half of the draw. But have withdrawn to attend a funeral back in Europe.

European results
With Viktor Axelsen’s withdrawal, and Brice Leverdez’s defeat to Anders Antonsen, the Danish ‘Next One’ is the only European men’s singles through to the quarter-finals on Friday.

Women's singles star Carolina Marin from Spain withdrew with an injury against Michelle Li from Canada, and the Danish women’s double of Christinna Pedersen and Kamilla Rytter Juhl was defeated in the second round.

European men’s doubles also suffered a withdrawal from Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen. This leaves Ivan Sozonov/Vladimir Ivanov and Mads Pieler Kolding/Mads Conrad-Petersen as the only Europeans left in that event.
